Black Mental Health and Trauma Awareness Day
Sunday, May 2, 2021 from 1pm to 4pm
686 South Ave Syracuse, NY 1320
Mothers of the Community is a grassroots organization in Syracuse that hosts
awareness events dedicated to de-stigmatizing mental health and raising awareness
about services offered in the community.
In observation of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are going to address the
impacts of racism on mental health in Syracuse’s Black and Brown communities and to
encourage systemic change. The systemic nature of racism and discrimination impacts
the ability of Black and Brown community members to access education, legal services,
employment and housing, which in turn affect mental health. The disproportionate
effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, racism, and racial injustice continue to negatively
affect Black and Brown communities everywhere. With this event, we are seeking your
support with having a conversation about overcoming trauma, spreading mental health
awareness, and access to community resources.
